ATSA is currently developing an updated Australian Service Technician Training Course with a plan to launch by Sept/Oct 2026. This course is designed for technicians in the service and repair of Assistive Technology (AT) and those looking to enter the industry in Australia.
The course will be part of a competency-based, technical training and assessment program for Assistive Technology Equipment Suppliers and Service Technicians. It is designed for technicians employed by equipment suppliers, repair services, hospital or community services, government or non-government services and other organisations involved in the provision, repair or maintenance of mobility assistive technology.
The program will begin with Level 1 – Foundational/Beginner level, progressing to Intermediate/Senior Technician, allowing you to work within your scope of knowledge and experience. Mentorship will also be a key factor in the framework.
The course will include the technical knowledge, skills, professional responsibilities, supervision requirements and escalation boundaries expected of technicians who assemble, configure, test, troubleshoot, repair, maintain, adjust and support assistive technology mobility devices within an approved prescription, service instruction or delegated technical plan.
There will be two levels in this course. Both Levels I & 2 will require initial self-paced online learning modules offered on ATSA learning platform. Level I will cover the introductory topics listed below. If you wish to only undertake Level I (and pass the online learning with an 80% or higher score) you may proceed to take the practical exam for that Level to test your applied knowledge in diagnosing, troubleshooting and fixing mobility and other critical devices such as beds, hoists etc.
Once completed Level I online and practical exams, you can continue to Level 2 online learning – and following that, once again undertake the practical assessment for this Level.
A certificate of completion is provided upon passing each Level or exam.
