MEDIA RELEASE
27 May 2021
Assistive Technology Suppliers Australia (ATSA) closed its Perth Independent Living Expo early today following new Covid-19 advice from the Western Australian Department of Health.
The ATSA Board took the prudent decision following updated government advice this morning that anyone who arrived in Western Australia between May 16 and 6pm on May 26 must be tested for Covid-19 within 48 hours and stay in quarantine until they get a negative result.
Previously people were only required to get tested if they had been to a Victorian exposure site.
ATSA Executive Officer David Sinclair said there were a significant number of exhibitors who had also attended the Melbourne Expo on May 18 and 19.
“The new health advice left has no choice but to close the expo at 12pm – three hours earlier than scheduled,’’ Mr Sinclair said.
“We understand that this is very disappointing for everyone involved and particularly for attendees who have travelled great distances to visit the Expo and get first-hand advice and solutions to the everyday challenges they are facing.
“However, we believe that people’s health comes first, and we thank everyone involved for their understanding.
“There was great interest in the Expo last held in Perth three years ago and we look forward to returning in 2023.’’
